Trapped, held captive Rapt in the abstract React to the incision Reaping division Complete fission Of soul and spirit Trapped, held captive Rapt in the abstract React to the incision Reaping division Complete fission Of soul and spirit Through the looking-glass I see obscurity Yet I will see Alas, I’ll see There’s an enigma here There’s an enigma here Truth and ambiguity Will resolve themselves There’s an enigma here There’s an enigma here Rent to inspect Bent toward the absent Preempt in searching the darkness For riches hidden in secret places Being ciphered in the halls of the Ancients For soul and spirit Through the looking-glass I see obscurity There’s an enigma here There’s an enigma here Truth and ambiguity Will resolve themselves There’s an enigma here There’s an enigma here In a design that’s not his own What can doubting Thomas be shown? What can the reader find Without reading between the lines? What is truth when it’s unseen? When perception’s tearing at the seams? How can I go the whole nine yards When all I see are three? Am I turning a blind eye By ignoring what’s been disguised? There’s an enigma here There’s an enigma here There’s an enigma here There’s an enigma here Truth and ambiguity Will resolve themselves There’s an enigma here There’s an enigma here

The ballet sold out as a masquerade The marquee set by wolves dressed like sheep on parade While monsters remain in the dark, in the shade Shed light on my soul, shed light on my soul There’s a man in the mirror that hates to be seen He’d rather sit in the dark and avoid their screams But You keep telling me to come into the light You’ve never been one for foul play or smoke screens You won’t find me in Moses’ chair Throwing stones or splitting hairs The ballet sold out as a masquerade The marquee set by wolves dressed like sheep on parade While monsters remain in the dark, in the shade Shed light on my soul, shed light on my soul I don’t want to wear another king’s crown Or put on some rags for his charity But I’m not sure who I am, nor how to be noble So naked I come, I trust that You’ll clothe me You won’t find me in Moses chair Throwing stones or splitting hairs The ballet sold out as a masquerade The marquee set by wolves dressed like sheep on parade While monsters remain in the dark, in the shade Shed light on my soul, shed light on my soul You won’t find me all dressed in white While I’m as good as dead inside You’re throwing rocks at my glass house And tearing at my veils Shed light on my soul, shed light on my soul Shed light on my soul, shed light on my soul

Why don’t You turn back time? I’ll relive the former grace I will shed the fallen state Why don’t You turn back time? So I can fill this empty space So I can hide from this crusade Must I face it all? The battle is inside, the battle is inside There’s no gunpowder here, only rumination The battle is inside, it’s an ancient design There’s no gunpowder here, and no turning back time Why won’t it go away? No matter how long I seem to wait I’ll have to learn from yesterday It won’t just go away It’s time to form a better plan I can’t just lean on my own hand The battle is inside, the battle is inside There’s no gunpowder here, only rumination The battle is inside, it’s an ancient design There’s no gunpowder here, and no turning back time It’s an ancient design Armageddon Armageddon Must I…? The battle is inside, the battle is inside There’s no gunpowder here, only rumination The battle is inside, it’s an ancient design There’s no gunpowder here, and no turning back time The battle is inside, the battle is inside There’s no gunpowder here, only rumination The battle is inside, it’s an ancient design There’s no gunpowder here, and no turning back time

I dreamed I’d build a tower for the King I guess that I was dreaming Joseph’s dream My head in the clouds I set my best foot forward, raised my head I’d see what I was made of in the end My castle in the sky Were You surprised when I was fooled again? When I didn’t count the cost, didn’t see where this would end? The tower of my dreams Why must it plague me? I’m reaching out in faith Falling short of what I see The tower of my dreams I’m a sinking ship at my own game Water overboard A deluge of shame, here to douse my flame It seems I’ve lost my course Will I dream no more? Let’s start over Let’s start over again I won’t be a flash in a pan in the end So let’s start over again Let’s start over again Let’s start over I dreamed I’d build a tower for the King And now I see what it all means And now I’m free to dream again And I won’t hide in my selfish pride Because these dreams aren’t mine Were You surprised? The tower of my dreams Why must it plague me? I’m reaching out in faith Falling short of what I see The tower of my dreams Was never meant to be my burden I’m not the architect, no Only the heir to what’s been shown You’re the Giver of my dreams The Giver of my dreams

Am I to honor You in my sleep? Am I to bring You praise in my dreams? Am I to honor You in my sleep? Am I to bring You praise in my dreams? I keep saying, “I’ll meet You halfway.” But in truth, I need You to meet me where I am (To look to You is to close my eyes To lean on You is to finally take a stand) [Help me, help me] Help me, help me Help me, help me

Where is the end? If my voice were to fade If my eyes would dim Is it this far and no further? Where is the end? If my voice were to fade (Is this the end?) If my eyes would dim Is this the end? (The end) “Come to Me” (How far will You let me go? How close will You let me come?) If I reach the end, the end of me Would I find You there, and would you find me? (The end) It’s in Your hands, define the end

about

Opus Quest is the brainchild of Borin Doulos, and Assay’s debut EP. Borin wrote and recorded all of the music and lyrics out of a series of deeply personal questions that led him through a years-long, transformative dialogue with Jesus; hence the name, Opus Quest — a musical expression of his journey. Assay has a unique musical style, combining various genres and implementing a vast array of instrumentation. The music is very dynamic, often morphing with the context of the lyrics while venturing at times into key changes, unusual time signatures, and polyrhythms. “I think of music as an infinite potential of sequences to express a thought or emotion,” Borin says about his approach to songwriting for Assay, “not a series of boxes that I’m trying to fit into. This is really freeing when trying to write music out of a place of significant internal depths that may previously have remained unexamined.” Opus Quest echos this approach with intentional melodic hooks, emotional instrumentation, and complex drum patterns and guitar riffs. Some songs host a nearly typical alternative feel while not forsaking an explorative nature, and others progressively evolve with few to no repetitive segments. There are elements of electronic music used in Opus Quest, but it doesn’t take long to hear epic orchestral and cinematic scoring as well. Assay is only beginning with Opus Quest, and plans are in the works for upcoming music.
